October 2024 is here, which means tons of new spooky arrivals for Disney+ and Hulu. The two streaming giants are back in full force with exciting original movies and TV shows perfect for the Halloween season. Disney Bundle subscribers, of course, will benefit the most in October 2024 with access to both streaming services. From the revival of a classic Disney Channel series to more horror films than anybody can stream on Hulu, there’s a lot to go over. So, let’s dive into this month’s latest Disney+ and Hulu additions.
When comedy partners Taika Watiti and Jermaine Clement collaborated on the original What We Do in the Shadows movie in 2014, they had no idea how big of a cult phenomenon it would become. Now, the FX television series based on the film will premiere the first three episodes of its sixth and final season on Hulu on October 21, 2024. When What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 premieres, the beloved vampires Leslie “Laszlo” Cravensworth (Matt Berry), Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nadja of Antipaxos (Natasia Demetriou), and their human familiar Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén) will be readying to depart our TV screens on a high note. Hulu subscribers obsessed with the dark comedy’s non-stop quirk should mark their calendars now.
For a more family-friendly horror-comedy mixture, the first season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place debuts its first two episodes on Disney+ on October 29, 2024, followed by its next two on October 30. The show is a sequel to the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place that follows young wizard Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) as she studies under the tutelage of original co-lead Justin Russo (David Henrie). In addition to new cast members, like Mimi Gianopulos as Justine’s wife, Giada Russo, several returning familiar faces are coming back to the fray for the revival, namely Selena Gomez as Alex Russo. Maria Canals-Barrera, David DeLuise, and Jake T. Austin will also cameo in their original roles from the Russo family. With the four episodes dropping in quick succession, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place feels like the ultimate Halloween treat for Disney+ subscribers.
Back to the more mature content coming onto Disney+ and Hulu in October 2024, Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story franchise makes its customary appearance. The fourth season of American Horror Stories, a spin-off anthology series featuring previous AHS actors playing different roles in single episodes, is scheduled to drop all at once on October 15, 2024. As part of this year’s “Huluween” line-up, American Horror Stories will bring 5 new standalone spooky tales featuring the likes of Michael Imperioli (The White Lotus), June Squibb (Thelma), and singer-actress Debby Ryan. Additionally, the one and only Henry Winkler (Barry) will be starring as a patch-eyed mad scientist in the show’s first black-and-white episode.
Another addition to Hulu’s month-long Huluween celebration — designed to make the streamer extra festive for October 2024 — is the Sarah Paulson-starring horror movie Hold Your Breath. Set in Dust Bowl-era Oklahoma in the 1930s, the Hulu original film follows a mother (Paulson) trying to keep her children safe from creatures who are shrouded by dust storms. Emmy-winning actor Ebon Moss-Bachrachof FX’s The Bear stars in the Hulu movie as well, raising an eyebrow or two.Subscribers don’t have to wait because Hold Your Breath has already been added to Hulu this month. Also included as a part of Huluween this year will be Halloween Specials for the beloved adult animated shows Family Guy and Solar Opposites.
Although it’s not a Hulu original, many users of the streaming platform are eagerly awaiting the premiere of Abbott Elementary Season 4. Thankfully for them, the streamer will be making new episodes available as they air, starting with the premiere on October 9, 2024. The multi-Golden Globe and Emmy-winning comedy series tackling the trials and tribulations of working at a predominantly Black public school in Philadelphia has been lauded for its relatable humor courtesy of creator Quinta Brunson. Moreover, this latest season of Abbott Elementary is confirmed to have a crossover episode with the long-running, raunchy sitcom series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Fans are going to want to tune in as Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (Rob McElhenney), Frank (Danny Devito), and the gang get into trouble with the educators at Abbott.
Going back to Huluween, several horror films are making their way to the streaming service that will whet the appetite for things that go bump in the night throughout October 2024. There’s the very meme-able Blumhouse film Ma, as well as the underrated The Hills Have Eyes remake from Never Let Go director Alexandre Aja. David Cronenberg’s The Fly is there to traumatize a whole new generation of budding horror heads, while the addition of The Sixth Sense will blow the minds of any viewer not familiar with the classic M.
